Terberg Tractors Malaysia Wins RM88mil Westports Contract
Pasir Gudang, 21 March 2016 – Westports Malaysia has awarded a RM88 million contract to Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TTM), a joint venture between Terberg Group and Sime Darby Industrial, to strengthen its terminal tractors fleet.
The contract comprises 153 units of the YT220 MKII Terberg Terminal Tractors. The deal is also inclusive of service and maintenance over the next seven years. The first delivery of terminal tractors is anticipated to take place in April 2016 and will continue through into August 2016.
Commenting on the contract award, General Manager of Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Mr Boo Wei Ching said, “The lifecycle contracts literally guarantees our customers a hassle-free fleet and maximum uptime. Our customers’ fleet is maintained on our cost and time at a fixed rate lower than what the customer would otherwise be paying for mandatory major overhauls and repairs required on the customer’s resources.”
“Introducing this approach to our customers puts us at the forefront of our industry, giving a lead in pricing and cost management for our customers. We believe this a vote of confidence towards the Terberg brand of commitment to quality and leading-edge technology.”
Westports Malaysia is the first ever customer to award lifecycle contracts in Malaysia where TTM undertakes the responsibility of maintaining the fleet throughout the expected life of the equipment, akin to buying an insurance policy with a monthly premium with TTM taking care of the rest.
“We believe this new idea will be a market trend-setter as it provides peace of mind to the port operators with qualified and reliable support from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). This repeat award from Westports, together with the lifecycle maintenance contract strengthen our beliefs that we are on the right track.”
“More importantly, the use of quality terminal tractors in ports is the right way forward. Port operations can be distilled down to two things, efficiency and reliability; you need the right tool for the right job. TTM’s solid products are anchored on a philosophy of continuous improvement. The MKII features an upgraded Euro 3 engine and ample enhancements in the overall specifications to provide up to 10% savings in fuel efficiency,” Mr Boo added.
“In fact, Terberg terminal tractors are not an unfamiliar sight in Westports; the port has the experience of operating a fleet of more than 300 units. With over 50 ship-to-shore cranes operating at Westports, there are sufficient opportunities for TTM to expand its footprint in the Malaysian ports scene; and we too, are looking forward to the continued growth in Westport’s container handling business,” said Mr Boo.
