Kuala Lumpur, 15 June, 2016 – Sime Darby Industrial, a leading distributor of premium heavy equipment, has won contracts worth more than RM90 million from PSA Singapore Terminals (PSA), the world’s largest container transhipment hub.

Under the contracts, Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Sime Darby Industrial and The Netherlands-based Terberg Group, will manufacture and supply PSA with a total of 290 terminal tractors and an option for another 390 units.

Commenting on the deal, Mr Boo Wei Ching, General Manager of Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd said, “This deal with PSA represents the second such deal of this size, and a testament to the quality and value we bring to the table. We previously secured a large contract from PSA in 2013.

“We are renowned for being reliable and efficient and have established our expertise and track record throughout the region over the years. We are pleased that these contracts demonstrate PSA’s confidence in our products and reflect well on our capabilities in this segment.”

“The award of these contracts is very significant to us, as PSA’s requirements are the world’s port industry benchmark of standards and quality in the products they use for their operations,” added Mr Boo.

The delivery to PSA will commence from October 2016 and run until March 2017.

Commenting on the features of the terminal tractor, Mr Boo added, “The award of the contract was a result of our continuous product development with our principal, Terberg Benschop, and PSA on existing units already in use. The continuous improvement initiatives we embark on ensures our design is robust, practical, ergonomic, and reduces the overall owning and operating costs, which include increased savings in fuel efficiency.”

“On the business front, we are bullish on the outlook for terminal tractors in 2016. There are strong growth prospects in the Asia Pacific region, including Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and domestically in Malaysia as well. We look forward to strengthening our presence in these markets and tap into new ones such as South Korea and Pakistan,” he concluded.
