Sime Darby Berhad announced changes in its Board of Directors today.

The Group’s Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, 67, will retire from the Board effective 31 October 2019 due to health reasons.

Dato’ Abdul Rahman bin Ahmad, 50, will join the Board of Sime Darby Berhad as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director on 1 September 2019. He will assume the position of Chairman of Sime Darby Berhad on 31 October 2019.
“The Board of Directors and the senior management team of Sime Darby Berhad expresses its gratitude to Tan Sri Wan Abdul Aziz for his leadership and valuable contributions these past years. We look forward to a smooth transition of Board leadership under Dato’ Abdul Rahman’s direction,” said Sime Darby Berhad’s Group Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Jeffri Salim Davidson.

Tan Sri Wan Abdul Aziz joined the Group in 2012 as a Director of the Board and a member of several Board committees, before assuming the role of Chairman in November 2017, following the pure play restructuring exercise. Tan Sri Wan Abdul Aziz has had an illustrious career, holding various senior positions in the Ministry of Finance and in the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department. In 2007, he was appointed the Secretary General of Treasury in the Ministry of Finance, a position he held until his retirement in 2012.

Dato’ Abdul Rahman is currently the President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB). Sime Darby Berhad is one of PNB’s key strategic companies in which it owns a 52 per cent stake.

Dato’ Abdul Rahman was formerly a Director and the Chief Executive Officer of Ekuiti Nasional Bhd (Ekuinas), a government-linked private equity firm. Prior to joining Ekuinas, he was the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Media Prima Berhad, a leading integrated media investment group in Malaysia and Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), a leading Malaysian conglomerate. Dato' Abdul Rahman also sits on the Board of Velesto Energy Berhad.
