Proudly Malaysia, Driving the Future

An engineering graduate of the University of Michigan, Eisqil Yuliana Hazamuddin could have pursued opportunities anywhere in the world. Instead, she chose to return home to build her career and give back to the country she proudly calls home.

Eisqil joined Sime in 2019, through the Protégé Programme with Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP). As a Protege, she supported the Aftersales Importer team across key operational areas such as procurement, merchandise management and commission administration. While the role may have been behind the scenes, it gave her first-hand exposure to the inner workings of the business and equipped her with a strong operational foundation that would support her future career progression.

Today, Eisqil serves as Head of Engineering at the Porsche Production Plant in Inokom, a subsidiary of Sime Motors in Kulim, leading engineering operations for one of the world's most iconic automotive brands. Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, curiosity and believing in possibilities where others may not.

As Malaysia celebrates another year of nationhood, Eisqil's story reflects the values that have long defined the country: diversity, resilience and unity.

For Eisqil, being Malaysian means embracing "unity in diversity". She believes Malaysia's strength lies in its people and their ability to celebrate different cultures, traditions and perspectives while sharing a common sense of belonging.

"Our differences are not barriers but strengths that help us grow," she says.

One experience that reinforced this belief was a visit to Hin Bus Depot in Penang. Surrounded by artists, entrepreneurs, families and visitors from different backgrounds, she witnessed how people connected naturally through art, food and creativity, reminding her of what makes Malaysia special.

"Diversity is not just about different cultures coexisting. It is about how we learn from one another, celebrate our differences, and create something better together."

The same principle, she believes, can be found in the workplace.

At Sime, Eisqil sees people from different backgrounds united by shared goals and values. In her view, the collaboration and mutual respect among colleagues reflect the very spirit of Malaysia.

"Every day, we work alongside colleagues from different backgrounds, yet remain focused on a common purpose. It mirrors the Malaysian spirit of coming together, celebrating one another, and moving forward as one."

Beyond Malaysia, Eisqil also had the opportunity to undergo training at Porsche's facilities in Bratislava, Slovakia, gaining exposure to advanced manufacturing technologies and world-class engineering practices. The experience not only broadened her perspective but also enabled her to bring valuable knowledge back to Malaysia, sharing insights and best practices with colleagues while supporting the growth of local capabilities.

Asked to describe Malaysia in just three words, Eisqil's response was both simple and powerful: Diverse, Resilient and United for its rich multicultural heritage, ability to overcome challenges, and unwavering spirit of togetherness.

Looking ahead, Eisqil draws hope from fellow Malaysians. Their openness to new ideas, willingness to embrace diversity and desire to create positive change give her confidence that the nation will continue to grow stronger, more innovative and more united in the years to come.

From Michigan to Kulim, from protégé to Head of Engineering, Eisqil's story is ultimately a Malaysian one of courage, determination and unwavering belief in what is possible.

Today, she stands not only as a leader in one of the world's most iconic automotive brands, but also as a proud example of Malaysian talent making its mark on the global stage. In doing so, she carries the spirit of Malaysia far beyond our shores, showing that when given the opportunity to thrive, Malaysians can excel anywhere in the world while while remaining grounded in the values that shaped them.
