Sime Strengthening Across Asia Pacific

28 August 2026

Regional growth creates opportunities for Malaysian talent and Bumiputera businesses

PETALING JAYA, August 28, 2026 – From resource-rich mining regions in Australasia to fast-evolving automotive markets in China and Southeast Asia, Sime Darby Berhad (Sime) continues to demonstrate the ability of a homegrown Malaysian company to compete, lead and create value across Asia Pacific. As one of Malaysia’s leading multinational corporations and a proud flagbearer for the nation on the global stage, Sime continues to showcase Malaysian expertise, innovation and business excellence across the markets it serves.

Founded in 1910 and headquartered in Malaysia, Sime today operates across 18 countries and territories, with a workforce of approximately 29,000 employees. As Malaysia’s largest listed company by revenue in 2025, Sime has established itself as a leading regional player in the automotive and industrial sectors, with 64% of the Group’s revenue generated outside Malaysia, reflecting the scale of its regional operations and international reach.

Sime’s regional presence is built on long-standing partnerships with global automotive and industrial brands. Today, Sime is one of the world’s largest Caterpillar and BMW dealers, a legacy anchored by 97 years of partnership with Caterpillar and 58 years with BMW, reflecting the trust, credibility and value the Group has built with its global partners over decades.

Through its Motors division, the Group operates more than 200 outlets across 10 Asia Pacific markets, covering vehicle assembly, distribution, retail, aftersales and rental. Sime Motors and Sime UMW together give the Group a presence across the full automotive spectrum, with Sime UMW further strengthening its leadership through Perodua and Toyota in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Sime Industrial supports customers across mining, construction, infrastructure and data centres in key markets including Australia, China, Malaysia and Singapore.

Dato’ Jeffri Salim Davidson, Group Chief Executive Officer of Sime, said, “Sime is proudly Malaysian, but our business and our people compete across some of the largest and most demanding markets in Asia Pacific. Our wide geographical presence demonstrates that Malaysian companies and talent can operate successfully on the regional stage. Just as importantly, what we learn and build in these markets must also benefit Malaysia. We want to bring new knowledge and perspectives home, develop our local talent pool and create more opportunities for Malaysian businesses to grow with us. This is closely aligned with the national GEAR-uP agenda and its focus on building a more competitive and resilient Malaysian economy.”

The Group’s regional footprint also enables Malaysian employees to contribute across Sime’s operations. Exposure to diverse operating environments and business practices helps strengthen Sime’s talent pipeline, while enabling knowledge from across the region to be shared and adapted locally.

In Malaysia, Sime also plays an important role in strengthening the local automotive manufacturing ecosystem. Through Inokom in Kulim, Kedah, the Group undertakes local assembly for global automotive brands, including BMW, MINI, Hyundai, Mazda, Porsche and Chery. With its assembly capabilities supported by a 100% Malaysian workforce, Inokom equips Malaysian talent with specialised technical expertise while working to the exacting standards of global principals, reinforcing Malaysia’s capabilities as a regional automotive manufacturing hub.

Beyond this, Sime’s contribution extends across its network of Malaysian suppliers, vendors, dealers and service providers. In 2025, Sime supported over 980 Bumiputera vendors and local businesses, with nearly RM2.5 billion spent on procurement, further contributing to employment, capability development and economic activity across the value chain.

“As a homegrown Malaysian company, our growth across Asia Pacific is not just about expanding our business footprint. It is about bridging opportunities for Malaysia by connecting local talent, businesses and communities to wider regional and global markets. Through these connections, we create opportunities for Malaysians, strengthen local enterprises, and bring back valuable knowledge and capabilities that support the nation's continued development. We are proud to serve as a flagbearer for Malaysia and remain committed to building a competitive regional business that delivers sustainable value for both our stakeholders and Malaysia,” added Dato’ Jeffri.
