Two Leadership Awards Celebrate Sime Industrial’s CFO

Casey Tanks, our Chief Financial Officer at Sime Industrial Solutions, has been named one of Australia’s top emerging business leaders.
Now in its 22nd year, the Australian Financial Review’s (AFR) BOSS Young Executives competition celebrates business or community leaders aged 35 or younger with a strong track record in people and thought leadership.
Casey joined Sime Industrial Solutions in 2017 and has served as CFO for more than two years. She plays a critical role in leading financial strategy across its portfolio of machinery services, labour hire, and industrial rental operations.
In an interview with the AFR, Casey shared how her passion for helping businesses to solve complex problems has driven her career success.
“I’m not a typical accountant, so completing numbers at a month’s end doesn’t excite me as much as talking about the businesses, and helping (people) solve complex problems,” says Casey.
This latest honour follows Casey’s recent recognition as a finalist in the AFR’s annual Women in Leadership Awards in June. These prestigious awards celebrate the achievements of influential Australian women, with Casey nominated as an outstanding leader in the Resources, Industrials and Utilities category.
Growing up in Adelaide, Casey developed a love for maths and, later, crime shows like CSI before realising she could combine her interests.
“I didn’t know I wanted to be an accountant. And then one day, I thought, ‘That sounds cool. I get to do numbers and I love crime-fighting stuff’,” she says.
Casey credits juggling full-time work, study, and weekend nightclub shifts at the start of her career with building her resilience. Her working life began in insolvency at McGrath Nicol, followed by corporate restructuring and deal advisory at KPMG and a move to Brisbane.
Casey’s growing list of accolades reflects the leadership and resilience she has shown through her career, and the impact she is making at Sime. Congratulations Casey!
