Pasir Gudang, 20 April 2015 – Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd (TTM), a joint venture between Terberg Group and Sime Darby Industrial, has won a RM58 million contract from Westports Malaysia to supply new terminal tractors.

The contract comprises 104 units of the YT220 MKII Terberg terminal tractors. The deal is also inclusive of service and maintenance over the next seven years. The first delivery of terminal tractors is anticipated to take place at the end of April 2015 and will continue until August 2015.

Westports Malaysia is a leading global ports player, supported by superior productivity and a water depth of 15-17.5 meters, making it the preferred hub port for the shipping lines in the region.

Westports Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ruben Emir Gnanalingam said the contract to purchase 104 Terminal Tractors came at the right time to cope with the demand in port operations.

“Westports’ container volume has grown exponentially over the years and it is now the leading terminal operator in Port Klang controlling 76% of the market share in container volume throughput as at end of 2014,” he said, adding that the purchase of tractors from Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd would definitely help in making Westports a greater port.

Commenting on the contract award, General Manager of Terberg Tractors Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Mr Boo Wei Ching said, “The contract reflects Westports’ confidence towards our products. Our focus has always been to deliver best-in-class equipment and expertise to improve efficiency and competitive advantage for our customers.”

“This contract is the first ever lifecycle contract in Malaysia where TTM is undertaking the responsibility to maintain the fleet throughout the expected lifecycle of the equipment; akin to buying an insurance policy with a monthly premium and TTM shall take care of the rest. We believe this new idea will be a market trend-setter as it provides peace of mind to the port operators with qualified and reliable support from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).”

“More importantly, the use of quality terminal tractors in ports is the right way forward. Port operations can be distilled down to two things, efficiency and reliability; you need the right tool for the right job,” Mr Boo added.

TTM’s solid products are anchored on the philosophy of continuous improvement. The MKII features an upgraded Euro 3 engine and ample enhancements in the overall specifications to provide up to 10% savings in fuel efficiency.

“In fact, Terberg terminal tractors are not an unfamiliar sight in Westports; the port is operating a fleet of 180 units. With over 50 ship-to-shore cranes operating at Westports, there are sufficient opportunities for TTM to expand its footprint in the Malaysian ports scene, and we too, are looking forward to the continued growth in Westports’ container handling business,” said Mr Boo.

TTM is committed to providing even greater value and quality service support to meet the port’s high expectations and deliverables to its worldwide customers. This included offering a comprehensive maintenance service for the Terberg fleet running in Westports Malaysia.
